The Rossica Translation Prize, established by Academia Rossica to encourage wider interest in Russian literature, is the first ever prize awarded for literary translation from Russian into English anywhere in the world. This issue is dedicated to the short-listed finalists and the Winner of the first Rossica Prize, Oliver Ready (trans. Buida’s The Prussian Bride). Articles, written by the short-listed translators, discuss the inevitable losses and unexpected findings involved in translating literary texts and discuss the task of interpreting classical Russian literature anew.

Also in this issue: RUSSIA! – the New York Guggenheim Museum’s unprecedented survey exhibition of Russian art from the last 800 years. Guggenheim curator Robert Rosenblum discusses just what it is that makes Russian art Russian in his article Russia and the United Nations of Art. In the My Russia series, five individuals strongly involved in Russian art and culture offer their own perception of Russia through its art.
