Following the success of the First Russian Film Festival last year, Academia Rossica is proud to announce the official dates of the Russian Film Festival 2008!
From 18th- 28th of September UK audiences will be given a unique chance to indulge their interest in contemporary Russian film. 10 prize-winning films produced in 2007-2008 will be premiered in London, giving the capital an opportunity to see and judge the very best of new Russian cinema.
‘Russia is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma; but perhaps there is a key...'
And perhaps this key is Cinema.
PROGRAMME
The programme promises a variety of styles, genres and themes, depicting a multifaceted Russian culture from new, imaginative angles. The main programme -Young Russian Cinema - will be enriched with a special programme of New Classics - showcasing the most recent works of well-established cinematic masters. These will be accompanied by a selection of documentary, shorts and animation films, and a special weekend of screenings and round table discussions entitled Politics and Cinema: The Cold War and Cinema of the Thaw. Furthermore, audiences will have a chance to meet and share their thoughts with some of the most prominent figures of contemporary Russian cinema and culture during numerous special events: talks, panel discussions and master classes.
The Russian Film Festival will also feature surprises for its audiences: a Secret screening on Friday 26th, and a premiere of a special project conceived by the film students of NFTS and VGIK (Russian National Film Institute).
The Official Programme of the RFF 2008 will be announced in early September. Please book your Gala Opening and Gala Closing nights well in advance. Priority booking will be given to Rossica film club members, ROSSICA journal subscribers and members of Apollo Cinemas.
VENUE
Apollo West End with its 5 screens and ritzy bar will be the glamorous host of the festival inviting audiences to experience Russian cinema in style!
