Hermitage Rooms in London
Art moves in mysterious ways. Works of art travel through the world, weaving it with invisible threads into one realm of culture. Seemingly random, their paths combine in strangely coherent patterns as if guided by some inner unseen Providence. Treasures which once migrated from Britain to distant snow-bound St Petersburg – thanks to Catherine the Great’s passion for ‘all things interesting and beautifully done’ - have now, after more than two hundred years, come to London to be shown at Somerset House. Originally transported to Russia so as to introduce the European style, they return to London as envoys of Russian culture.
