Hayward Gallery, Southbank Centre, Belvedere Road, London, SE1 8XX
This summer, Hayward Gallery transforms into Wide Open School. More than 100 international artists, including Martin Creed, Antony Gormley, Tracey Emin, and Jeremy Deller, will lead classes and give lectures and performances on subjects that inspire them. Thursday 5 July 2pm Friday 6 July 10am Performance, ritual, symbolic action: rite as play and the art of performance Over the course of two sessions Elena Kovylina will ask participants to single out elements of ritual that lie hidden in ordinary, everyday customs and behaviour. A separate task entails creating new rites, either ironically or seriously. Practical exercises involve performing symbolic actions, both traditional and absurd, and participants are invited to come up with proposals, improvisations and actions related to the theme. £20 (2 days) www.wideopenschool.com Join the conversation on Twitter: @southbankcentre #WideOpenSchool or Facebook: Hayward Gallery | |
