Exploring Russian Writing at Stonehill House Stonehill House presents a series of informal talks on Russian literature. No prior knowledge needed. Boris Pasternak - a glimpse into family correspondence Saturday, 26th May Speaker: Nicholas Pasternak Slater Nicolas Pasternak Slater, is the nephew of Boris Pasternak, poet and creator of Dr Zhivago, who was demonised in his home country. Nicolas Slater has translated his uncle's correspondence with his family abroad. Morning lecture and in the afternoon a rare opportunity to visit the Pasternak Museum in Oxford. Chekhov & Tolstoy - their lives and their prose Saturday, 16th June Speaker: Rosamund Bartlett Author and translator Rosamund Bartlett will discuss the lives of two very different writers who had an abiding affection for each other. Her illustrated talks will provide a political and cultural background to these literary colossi. 20th century Russian poetry Saturday, 23rd June Speakers: Robert Chandler and Masha Karp Robert Chandler is a translator and author. Masha Karp is a translator and journalist, and chair of The Pushkin Club in London. Their talks will examine a selection of Russian poets, including Akhmatova, Tsvetaeva and Mandelstam.
