 | you are here: Academia Rossica presents» news» Part Two of Kino: Russian Film Pioneers Part Two of Kino: Russian Film Pioneers 9 – 30 June Today commences the second part of the Kino: Russian Film Pioneers season at the British Film Institute in Southbank, in partnership with Academia Rossica. This continuation looks at the years 1909 – 1957, where Russian cinema was developing its use of sound, introducing the popular musical! A wide selection of films has been chosen including the winner of the Cannes Palme d’or in 1958, The Cranes Are Flying, which is a visual feast with a fascinating narrative to match. Other highlights include Eisenstein’s historical epic Ivan the Terrible, parts one and two, which will be shown together. Other films being screened include Chapayev, Happy Guys, Outskirts, Peasants, the Return of Maxim, Spring, the Vyborg Side and the Youth of Maxim.
