Elif Batuman’s obsession with the lives and novels of the great Russian authors is encapsulated in her debut book, The Possessed which she discusses with Pavel Basinsky, who won the Big Book Award in Russia for Leo Tolstoy: Flight from Paradise. The authors discuss the legacy of great Russian writing today, both for writers and in the wider public consciousness.
