Synopsis

 

Based on Aleksei Ivanov’s novel of the same time, The Geographer Drank His Globe Away follows a biologist called Victor Sluzhkin, who, due to a lack of money, has had to take a job in a school as a geography teacher. There are many problems in his life: no money, quarrels with his wife, affairs on the side, conflicts with the students and the assistant headmaster in his new job, and a feeling of constant loneliness. However, life must go on: he continues to take his daughter to the nursery, organizes a trip on the river with the ninth-graders, and falls in love with one of his students ...
