On 23 & 24 March, Tchaikovsky’s Second Symphony is paired with living Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin’s impassioned Lithuanian Saga, and Shostakovich’s darkly brilliant Violin Concerto. Gergiev’s Tchaikovsky cycle continues on 12 & 15 May, when Tchaikovsky's Third Symphony will be performed together with Shostakovich's Concerto for Trumpet, Piano and Strings, and his Piano Concerto No 2.
