Mussorgsky, according to the Orchestra's Principal Conductor, Vladimir Jurowski, was the 'fore-runner of modernity' and without him, we would be without the music of Debussy, Ravel and Shostakovich. Quite a startling thought! The concert aims to show Mussorgsky through the eyes of the late 20th- and early 21st centuries with orchestrations by Bernd Alois Zimmerman (1918-1970) and Alexander Raskatov (b. 1953), as well as the world première performance of Raskatov's homage to Mussorgsky. Best available seat £14 (usually £39) Discounted tickets available by phone or in person at the Royal Festival Hall ticket office only – quote ‘Academia Rossica’. Call 020 7840 4242 (10am-5pm Mon-Fri) – no booking fee. Click here for full details, soundclips and an introduction to the concert by Vladimir Jurowski. | |
