    GOLDEN EAGLE AWARDS 2012


     

    Andrei Zvyagintsev’s latest hit film "Elena" was the crowning winner at this year’s Golden Eagle Awards in Moscow, taking four awards for Best Film, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress and Best Cinematography at the ceremony held on 27 January 2012. 

     

    Elena tells the story of a timid housewife and her relationship with her aging husband and business Vladimir. The film was also the winner of Un Certain Regards at Cannes in 2011 adding to the many awards that Zvyagintsev has received for his aclaimed films The Return and The Banishment.  

     

    Elena has been aquired by the UK distributor New Wave Films and will be hitting UK screens this summer.

     

     

    "House", a film by Oleg Pogodin walked away with three awards, while “Two Days” by Fyodor Bondarchuk took two Golden Eagles. The best Foreign Film was awarded to The King's Speech

     

    The Golden Eagles are organised by the National Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences of Russia and were first awarded in 2002.
