Marina Boroditskaya
Biography
Marina Boroditskaya is a prolific poet and translator. She graduated in 1976 from the Moscow State Institute of Foreign Languages, and is well known for translating English, American and French classical poetry. She has published numerous books of children’s poetry in Russia, and translated many English-language children’s writers, including A. A. Milne, Eleanor Farjeon and Hilaire Belloc. Her most recent translation, the relatively grown-up poets of the Silver Age, appeared in 2010. She is the author of five books of poetry for adults (but dislikes the idea that children’s poetry and adult poetry are somehow different, noting that ‘they’re made of the same stuff’).
Boroditskaya has won diplomas and awards for all aspects of her work and has regularly been a contributor to journals like Novy Mir and Inostrannaya Literatura since 1978. She presents the Russian equivalent of Poetry Please! on Russian radio. Called The Literary First Aid Box, it is inspired by her idea that literature is the best medicine. Many of her poems have been translated into English and circulated in publications on both sides of the Atlantic, most recently in the UK magazine Wasafiri (2011, No.1)
