The Russian Film Festival returned for its fifth year in November 2011. The festival offered the UK public an overview of the booming success in contemporary Russian cinema, screening the definitive new Russian releases. With Sokurov's Faust winning the Venice Film Festival this year and How I Ended Last Summer by Popogrebsky the crowing glory of last year's London Film Festival, Russian film is currently the belle of the ball at all international film festivals. Now is the time to find out what critics are all raving about.
The Russian Film Festival presented 10 of the best award-winning feature films - see the dedicated website for more details. Alongside the main programme, Vitaly Mansky, Russia's master of documentary film, put together a selection of contemporary Russian documentaries by women and about women. In addition we held a special screening of short films including under the radar works by some of Russia's best directors.
And of course, there was the ever popular comprehensive and diverse programme of animation, which enchanted adults and children alike with its charm and imagination.
We were delighted that as in previous years, Russia's best films were presented at the festival by their world famous directors and actors including Victor Ginzburg, Andrei Fomin, Alexsei Popogrebsky, Sergei Selyanov and Evgeny Gindilis
