synopsis Officially selected to open 19th Sochi film festival Kinotavr 2008, this film is an adaptation of Valentin Rasputin’s short story. It is 1944. Andrei returns to his native Siberian village, not as a hero, but as a deserter, who has escaped from the war hospital. The only person who knows about Andrei's return is his wife Nastya; she is the only person he can trust. Nastya must hide her husband from the rest of the world, including his own parents. With time, Nastya realises that she is carrying Andrei's child. The entire village perceives her as an unfaithful wife, who did not wait for her husband's return from the front. The victory day approaches, sons and husbands return to the village, but Nastya knows that her husband will never be able to come back.
creators Alexander Proshkin Director, co-writer of screenplay Alexander Proshkin began his directorial career in the early 1980's, and has rapidly risen into the ranks of contemporary cinematic masters. His second feature film. ‘A cold summer of ‘53' (1987) earned him a NIKA in the ‘Best Film' nomination, and it immediately became a classic of Russian cinema. His subsequent works include ‘To See Paris and to Die', ‘Black Veil', ‘The Captain's Daughter', and a successful TV adaptation of Pasternak's masterpiece ‘Doctor Zhivago'. Ruben Dishdishyan Producer Born in 1959 in Kazan', Ruben together with his brother is now head of the leading production and distribution company in Russia, Central Partnership. His projects include nationally and internationally acclaimed and award winning films like ‘12', ‘Mermaid' (an all-time favourite of the 1st Russian Film festival), ‘1612', ‘Wolfhound' and ‘Paragraph-78'. His work in TV includes ‘Doctor Zhivago', ‘Master and Margarita', ‘Hero of Our Time' and many other well-received TV films.
actors Daria Moroz (Nastya) Born in 1983, Daria is the daughter of the leading Russian producer and director Yuri Moroz and of the distinguished actress Marina Levtova. After graduating from Moscow Arts Theatre (MKHAT) acting school, she was immediately hired by the Moscow Arts Theatre company. Her cinematic career began as early as 1983, since than Daria has appeared in 25 feature and TV films. Mikhail Evlanov (Andrei) Born in 1974, Mikhail made his debut in 2004 in the widely acclaimed film ‘Ours'. Since then Evlanov has appeared in eight feature films, including ‘Simple Things', ‘Nirvana', and a mega successful Russian blockbuster ‘9th Company'.
Sergei Makovetsky (Mikheich) One of the most versatile Russian actors working today, Makovetsky began his acting career in theatre at the beginning of 1980's. He has worked in Vakhtangov theatre and continues to be part of Roman Viktuk's theatre company. Makovetsky became one of the most sought-after film actors in the post-Soviet era. His rich filmography includes a wide range of parts, spanning from the arthouse classic by Kira Murtova ‘Three Stories' and Balabanov's numerous creations (‘Of Freaks and Men', ‘Brother II', ‘It Doesn't Hurt') to light-hearted comedies and TV series. Sergei's two recent noteworthy performances are both presented at the festival - ‘12' and ‘Live to Remember'.
