Mikhail Segal has written a directed a dazzling range of projects, from feature length dramas to pop videos, as well as short films and advertisements . In 1995 he began studying at VGIK to become a film director, but a year later he left university and began to direct music videos for rock and hip-hop artists such as Cергей Galanin, Vladimir Kuzmin, "Bi2", "Spleen" and many others, being nominated for Best Music Video at the MTV Russian Music Awards. In 2006, at the 28th Moscow International Film festival, he presented his first feature film "Franz+Polina", based on a story by Ales Adamovich. The love story of an SS soldier and a Belarusian girl from an occupied village gained recognition at many Russian and international festivals. In 2010 the AST publishing house published Mikhail Segal's first book of prose, "Youth", featuring the title story and several other tales. His 2011 offering ‘Fastener Solutions’ won the Short Film award at the 22nd Kinotavr Film Festival.
