Renata Litvinova is a cult figure of contemporary Russian cinema, and is one of the most enigmatic and fashionable actresses around today, as well as being a talented screenwriter, producer and director. She made her name as a screenwriter with the release of the film Nelyubov in 1991. She has written several crime novels, one of which (Ophelia) became the basis of Kira Muratova’s film Three Stories. Litvinova’s acting debut came with the film Two Arrows: A Crime Story from the Stone Age, after which she quickly became established as an extraordinary actress, going on to star in films such as Ginzburg’s acclaimed adaptation of Generation P. Behind the camera, Litvinova has directed documentaries such as There Is No Death For Me and Green Theatre in Zemfira, as well as feature films including her latest project Rita’s Last Tale, which won the Kommersant Weekend Prize at the Moscow International Film Festival 2012.
