biography
Alexander Proshkin began his directorial career in the early 1980's, and has rapidly risen into the ranks of contemporary cinematic masters. He worked for many years in television, directing literary and dramatic programs for Central Television. His second feature film. A cold summer of ‘53 (1987) earned him a NIKA nomination in the ‘Best Film' category, and it immediately became a classic of Russian cinema. His subsequent works include To See Paris and to Die, Black Veil, The Captain's Daughter, and a successful TV adaptation of Pasternak's masterpiece Doctor Zhivago.
